Production costs (labor and raw material) are higher than last crop, but packers have a large inventory of old crop product and have cut their new crop production runs. Current pricing is confusing, as some packers are quoting based on their costs and some are quoting based on the market conditions.
This probably won’t be clear until the end of December or early January, 2014, when most packers will be towards the end of their production runs.
Since some packers are quoting very cheap for old crop, we suggest to take these now from good packers that guarantee a quality product.
