The supply of raw material is less than 2012 since farmers have reduced plantation areas of this item due to lower margin compared to certain crops that the government is supporting such as rice, tapioca or other crops for biodiesel. Moreover, baby corn seed is now short of supply. Change of weather (drought) is also major factor of short supply of all agricultural products causing high cost of this year’s raw material. The price of baby corn raw material is increasing due to mentioned factors, low yield, appreciation of Thai Baht against USD & EURO and labor cost against new basic wage rate which affected to all production materials.
Some packers have tried to encourage contract farming to increase the plantation areas and find new farmers/brokers for more supply of raw material every day. They expect the updated information (of raw material supply) will be available during May/June’ 2013 so that they can consider to serve new order for shipment in Quarter 3rd and 4th’ 2013.
Now no one can offer this item either canned or glass jar packing as they have fully booked and need to clear their pending orders until further notice as you may know now it is rather difficult to find the raw material of baby corn as per below mention.
