Morocco

The olive crop has been shorter than in the past years and farmers are asking more for the fresh olives. Normal prices today in Morocco should be at $19.50 for sliced and $20.50 for pitted, though today some packers have no more stock. There is no carry over from the past season therefore it seems that Morocco will be firming up.

Spain

The Spanish olive crop has been shorter as well, especially the queen variety where we had 35% less crop. In the other varieties crop has been more in line to past years though a bit less. Due to the need of selling from olive packers Spain is quite competitive at this moment; $18.75$ and $20.60, cheaper than Morocco and I do not expect lower prices but probably a firming up if demand increases as season advances and stock is reduced – not due to lack of olives but higher prices paid at the field.
