The latest reports from Thailand reflect a deeper worry regarding the supply of raw material to pineapple canneries. Total daily tonnage received is slightly over 6000 Metric Tons (MTs), with the east coast and central areas being very depressed. Large packers are only processing 400-450 MTs/day, while medium-size packers are processing 200-250/day.
This slowdown will depress the supply of canned pineapple, as updated estimates put the yearly annual tonnage of raw materials to the canning industry below 1.8 million MTs.
The fruit is trading at 6.00-6.40 Baht/Kg and will likely go up throughout the rest of the year.
It is recommended that those who require or will require canned pineapple place their orders now with reliable packers who will guarantee quality and also delivery.
