The situation and price of tuna raw material is unchanged. Nobody seems to be able to forecast future prices, and many believe that today’s $1900/MT price for Skipjack is as low as it will go for a while. Small traders apparently tried to lower the price, but without success, as raw material suppliers seem to be diverting product to Ecuador, where clients are reported to be paying $2100/MT.
Thai packers have committed to receiving raw material at $1900/MT through the end of August, and are receiving quotes for $1950 for delivery in September. Large packers are doing their estimations based on 3rd quarter prices of $1900, and 4th quarter prices at $2000.
Vietnamese packers are buying raw material at $1850-$1900/MT, forecasting $2000/MT for October.
